Happy New Year 2011

I have two resolutions this year. One of them is to be organized. The other one is to blog. I can accomplish both of these tasks, I just know it! Last year, I felt overwhelmed when I began to blog. I have a couple of friends who blog. Their blogs are dynamite. More importantly, however, is their verbage. Their use of the English language is empowering- their ability with words to create visual imagery is amazing. I felt like, in comparison, I was writing like I teach- as an elementary schooler. I have to overcome that comparison.

This year I will blog our lives. I have realized that I have already forgotten a LOT of Adlyr's firsts and the dates on which they occurred. I remember thinking, "I won't forget. These firsts are so important that I will ALWAYS remember." That is not true. I have already forgotten at which age she began to crawl, when we began to feed her solids, when she first smiled at us (and we knew it wasn't gas).

Adlyr's Eating Habits

Adlyr actually used a spoon today- independently! After I placed the noodle on the spoon, she placed the correct end of the spoon into her mouth. That occurence is a first time! Otherwise, she is using her hands to spoon food into her mouth. She is eating all kinds of goodies, however. I realized, earlier this week when we were at the doctor for the second time in the month due to her being sick (she was finally diagnosed with sinusitis and given Amoxicillin and a cough medicine) that I wasn't feeding her as well as I should be. I was giving her a LOT of deli meat (I don't even eat that stuff) for meals. I just didn't know what else to give her. So, I found a magazine (at the office) that listed some things for me to make. After the appointment, we went to Publix where I stocked up on some goodies for her- sweet potatoes, butternut and buttercup squash, green beans, spinach, and rice noodles. We returned home and I made her this delicious spaghetti sauce that incorporate the greens, sweet potatoes, and different varieties of canned tomatoes. When it was time for lunch, I felt very proud of myself! My baby was going to eat homemade (green) spaghetti sauce with rice noodles! She began to eat it, she swallowed, she showed me signs (her facial expressions) that she was sort of not enjoying it, but she continued to eat it (and she will for the next 8 or so meals because, of course, that recipe made enough for a lot more servings), and then the finale- she barfed! Green yuckiness went all over HER, the highchair, the floor. Oh, how WONDERFUL that I felt! My balloon of happiness popped- right there in front of my very eyes! I cleaned her up (I should mention that she did try to eat the vomit, so at least she seemed to enjoy the taste), pulled her out of the chair, and realized that it was NOT the food, it was probably that her stomach was FILLED with snot and yuckiness. Oh well, I thought- She will be eating this sauce again, so she had better like it.
